Education & Outreach

Education and outreach play an important role in achieving the objectives of the SEW. Through our partnership with the University of Arkansas, we provide opportunities for research, student projects and graduate study. Throughout the years, we have had a number of students conducting research on the SEW, more specifically, so far there have been 9 undergraduates (NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates's and Honor students), 19 Masters and 2 PhD students.

Other programs in the SEW include:

  • A six week field hydrogeology course which included about

100 students from all levels.

  • Multiple Hydrodays presentations which included more than

120 peopleat any given year

  • Research by Andrew Sharpley and Helen Jarvie

associated with phosphorus storage and runoff from soil.

  • Research projects conducted by each of the following agencies:

Idaho National environmnetal laboratory

US Geological Survey

Wireline Geophysical Lab (Borehole Geophysics)

  • Conferences including:

Southeast Conservationist Conference

Southeast Section Hydrology Conference with field demonstrations

Tentitive plans call for using the SEW as a training site for

USGS field personel
